Privacy Policy

Seasonkeeper (bloomed.top) is a field journal about phenology — what is in leaf, in flower, in fruit, turning colour, or moving through, and when. This page explains what happens to information when you read it.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you, and nothing that you would have to hand over to read the journal. There is no account, no newsletter, no comment box and no contact form on this site. Every note is a static page: the server hands you a file and forgets you asked.

If you write to [email protected], we receive your address and whatever you put in the message. We keep it only as long as it takes to answer and to fix whatever you reported, and we do not add it to any list. Ask us to delete it and we will.

Cookies

The journal itself sets no cookies. There is no login to remember and no preference to store, so nothing needs to be written to your browser to read a note. Anything your browser does store while you are here comes from the third parties described below, or from your own browser cache.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

We intend to fund the journal with advertising served by Google. As a third-party vendor, Google uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

• Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie and similar identifiers for interest-based advertising.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings.
• You can opt out of interest-based advertising from many vendors at aboutads.info and, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu.
• Where the law requires it, a consent notice appears before any non-essential cookie is set, and advertising cookies are not set until you agree.

Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. We do not sell advertising space directly, we do not pass your email address to advertisers, and no advertiser has any say in what the journal says about a flowering date.

Analytics

We may measure aggregate traffic — page views, referring site, approximate country, and which months people read — to work out what is worth writing up next. These figures reach us only as totals; they are not used to build a profile of you. Where a jurisdiction requires consent for analytics cookies, none are set until you agree.

Drawing tools and your notes

Two things on this site run entirely in your browser: the phenology ring figures are drawn as plain SVG files at build time, and anything you type into a page stays in that page. Nothing you type is transmitted to us, saved on a server, or attached to your visit. Reload the page and it is gone.

Links to other sites

Notes link out to species references, weather archives, land-manager pages and herbaria. Those sites have their own policies and we have no control over them. Read their privacy pages before handing them information.

Your rights (GDPR and CCPA)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to receive your data in a portable form. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising outside the ad-serving described above.

Requests and questions go to [email protected]. We answer within the period the applicable law sets, and we will tell you plainly if we cannot do what you asked and why.

Children

The journal is written for adults and for older students working on fieldwork, and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child has written to us, a parent or guardian can ask us to delete the message.

Security and retention

The site is served as static files. There is no database of readers to breach, because none exists. Emails that arrive are kept in a mail account with two-factor authentication, and are deleted when the thread is closed.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it, and any material change is described in the text rather than made quietly. Last updated: 18 September 2026.
